Cheesy Casserole Bread

4 1/2 cups flour

3 tablespoon sugar

1 cup milk

2 tablespoon shortening

4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese

2 packages yeast

1 tablespoon salt

1 cup water

1 egg

1 cup oats, uncooked

Combine 2 cup of flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl.  Heat milk, water, shortening over low heat until warm (110 to 115°F).  Add milk to flour mixture.  Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.  Add egg, cheese, and 1/2 cup flour.  Beat at high speed 2 minutes.  Stir in oats and enough additional flour to make a stiff batter.  Beat until blended.  Cover; let rise in warm place until double in size, about 45 minutes stir batter down.  Bake at (375°F) for 50 to 55 minutes.  Remove from pan and cool on wire rack.
