The Best Cornbread Turn oven on to 475°F and place a 10” iron skillet with 1 or 2 tablespoons of bacon grease in skillet and place in oven.
2 cups self-rising cornmeal 1/4 vegetable oil 1 or 2 eggs Buttermilk |

Mix 2 cup self-rising cornmeal with 1/4 vegetable oil, 1 or 2 eggs, beaten enough, buttermilk to make the mixture pourable. Do Not mix with liquid until oven reaches preset temperature. Pour mixture into hot skillet and return to oven. Bake until brown, approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from oven and invert skillet over serving immediately– Do Not Leave in Skillet |
